FAQs
While other Rex breeds (like the Devon or Cornish Rex) have thin, fine hair, the Selkirk Rex is known for its thick, plush, and woolly coat that resembles sheep’s wool. They have a much sturdier, “heavy-boned” build and a very patient, mellow temperament, often referred to as the “social butterflies” of the cat world.
No cat is truly 100% hypoallergenic. However, many people with mild allergies find they react differently to the Selkirk Rex because of their unique coat texture. Because they do shed (though the curls hold some of the loose hair), we always recommend spending time with the breed first if you have known sensitivities.
Surprisingly, you should not over-groom a Selkirk Rex! Brushing too frequently can “frizz” their beautiful curls. We recommend a wide-tooth comb once or twice a week to prevent mats while maintaining the natural ringlet pattern. We provide a full grooming guide with every kitten to help you keep their coat looking its best.
To ensure every kitten is fully socialized and physically ready for their new environment, we do not release them until they are at least 12 to 14 weeks old. This crucial period allows them to complete their initial round of vaccinations, undergo a final health check, and learn vital social behaviors from their mother and siblings.
Yes, absolutely. At Elite Selkirk Rex Cats, we stand behind the health of our cats. Every kitten comes with a written health contract that covers congenital and genetic defects. We also provide a complete medical record showing all vaccinations and deworming treatments administered while in our care, ensuring you start your journey with a healthy, happy companion.
